Sunday in the Forest: Caring for Saplings near Aleko Hut
On a peaceful Sunday, Surya Foundation once again returned to the foothills of Vitosha, near Aleko Hut, to continue caring for the saplings planted earlier in the year. This time, the focus was on clearing grass and cultivating the soil around the young trees — an important step in preparing them for the winter.
Tall grass around saplings can hold the weight of snow, which may lead to bending or damage to the young trunks. For this reason, volunteers worked to clear the area, ensuring more light, space, and better conditions for the trees to survive the cold months ahead.
The initiative brought together volunteers from Appfire and long-time supporters of the Foundation, who once again demonstrated their dedication and commitment to the cause. Although small in number, the group worked closely and with a clear sense of the importance of every effort.
Initiatives like this remind us that caring for nature is not a one-time act, but an ongoing process that requires time, attention, and consistency. With each such action, the forest on Vitosha grows not only with new trees, but also with people who genuinely care.
Surya Foundation extends its heartfelt thanks to all volunteers for their time, effort, and positive spirit, which turned this Sunday into another meaningful step toward a greener and more sustainable Vitosha.
