What did we achieve?
We successfully planted 45 large saplings β chestnuts, maples, and catalpas β in the “Levski G” neighborhood, which will enrich the area for generations to come!
How did the campaign unfold?
The campaign on November 9th was successful, with the help of 25 volunteers and 7 little helpers, we planted 45 saplings. Special thanks to the mayor of Poduyane, Kristiyan Hristov, Deputy Mayor Andrea Pandulis, our partners from Save Soil, and Nikolay Grozdanov, who prepared the ground free of charge.

Letβs Plant Parks in Sofia!
We are increasingly surrounded by buildings and fewer green spaces. Did you know that Sofia Municipality has an initiative called βForest in the Cityβ? It aims to plant urban parks, in the form of small woodlands, with native tree species in suitable areas.
We at the Surya Foundation are joining this meaningful cause in partnership with the Poduyane district as part of our main environmental mission.
Our goal is to plant 60 trees, mainly of two species β horse chestnut and catalpa β in 4 inter-block areas in the “Levski G” neighborhood β behind blocks 32, 33, and 34, and one in the Hadji Dimitar neighborhood, behind block 87.
We at the Surya Foundation are providing the saplings, transportation, and the necessary equipment for the entire process β from taking the saplings out of the nursery garden and baling them with biodegradable straw to transporting them to the future parks. Since the soil there is difficult to dig by hand and the saplings are 2.5 meters tall, we will use machinery to dig the holes.
With the support of the Poduyane district administration, we will provide tools and gloves for all volunteers, and we will organize watering of the newly planted trees to give them not just love but everything they need to take root and grow strong.
Join us to create these green, cool, and clean pockets of nature in the heart of the city. And park by park, one day, the city will be in the forest, not just the forest in the city.

What to bring?
Bring only drinking water and necessary personal items. Dress appropriately, but be ready to remove some layers if it gets too warm. A hat and scarf in this late autumn are a great idea. Itβs also a good idea to wear sturdy shoes.
We will provide gardening gloves and tools for the work.
Lunch will be provided for all volunteers.
